Kia Ora and Welcome to Kids Count Kelvin Road
At Kids Count every child is valued and cared for. We have an amazing team of teachers who have a range of skills to cater for the needs of children’s learning ability. We were established in May 2014 and have flourished into part of the community in Papakura.
We are licensed for up to 100 children and care for Centre from 3 months until they are ready to graduate to school.
We will genuinely care for your children and support their development as they evolve into the young individuals they are capable of being and to start them on their journey towards reaching their full potential.
We have recently converted our outdoor pool to extend our children’s permanent play area to the delight of the children. To ensure our children retain access to our free-swimming lessons they will travel to our sister centre at Marne Road who have a large indoor heated pool.

Our Rooms
For ages 3 months – 2 years
At Kids Count, we’ve created a nurturing space just for our littlest learners.
Here, they can play, learn, and grow—practising their gross motor skills from rolling to sitting to crawling. Before long, they’ll be babbling, walking, and running towards their next adventure.
It’s not just about movement; it’s about communication too. Children begin to recognise different sounds, notice facial expressions, and discover the meaning of their very first words. Our role is to understand and respond to these early expressions, supporting them as they learn to communicate.
Our teachers provide a thoughtful mix of new experiences and familiar comforts, always keeping the children’s needs at the heart of everything we do.

Whare Koru Toddler Room
For ages 2 – 3 years
In the Whare Koru Toddler Room, our tamariki begin to spread their wings and discover independence.
This is the stage where many start flexing their muscles—both physically and emotionally—while gaining confidence in themselves. Toilet training is an important milestone for children and families alike, and our teachers gently support and encourage this journey.
Our focus is to build positive relationships with our tamariki and whanau and create an environment that is calm and inviting for all who enter our room.
Their development moves quickly—sentences form, new words appear, and playful language like “jamwich” or “Happy Day” brings joy to everyday life.
With caring guidance, tamariki learn about friendships, teamwork, and sharing, while also exploring numbers, colours, shapes, and letters through fun games and activities.

Whare Kiwi 3-year old Room
For ages 3 – 4 years
In the Whare Kiwi Room, our 3-year-olds are growing rapidly and preparing for the next stage of learning. Our teachers nurture curiosity, encourage problem-solving, and support tamariki as they ask questions and try new things. We want every child to feel proud of who they are, confident to explore, and excited to learn.
At this age, many children are already speaking more than one language and developing a strong sense of identity. Their physical skills are also expanding, and we encourage them to take the lead in games and activities, building confidence and independence.
Every moment is a learning opportunity—whether indoors or outdoors. In Whare Kiwi, tamariki are supported to explore, discover, and grow together.
Whare Kiwi 4-year old Room
For ages 4 – 6 years
In the Whare Kiwi Room for our 4-year-olds, tamariki begin their transition-to-school journey. Our teachers work closely with local schools to ensure the preparation we provide matches expectations, helping children feel confident, capable, and excited about their next big step.
At this stage, language blossoms—even inventing creative words like “focusstraight” to describe deep concentration! Alongside this, tamariki expand their social skills, develop self-management, and practise critical thinking, problem-solving, and curiosity through play-based learning.
Through fun, hands-on activities, children are introduced to early maths, science, writing, and reading in ways that connect to their everyday experiences. Our programme reflects elements of the primary school curriculum, while still keeping learning joyful and meaningful.
When it’s time to move on to school, we celebrate their achievements with a graduation ceremony, sharing this special milestone with whānau.
